Being the Director of Georgia’s House Shelter for Women and Children has changed me in so many unexpected ways. I have grown in ways I didn’t think possible. I went from being an insecure, down trodden, hopeless person, when I was a resident here at Georgia’s House, to who I am today. This part of my journey has changed my life exponentially. I can only hope that one day I may have this effect on some one else!
My role as the director has been about helping to provide the glue that connects residents, staff and the Kitsap community into a working organism which assists and directs our women and children with an emphasis on accountability and responsibility. In hindsight this has enhanced my own conscious effort in personal accountability and responsibility.
The best part is seeing a smile on some one’s face the moment they realize they are safe and secure here and that there is hope. The hardest part has been discharging some one. At the end of the day though… I love what I do! I love my co workers! I love the women and children that pass through here on their way to a happier, more successful and more sustainable lifestyle.
I personally believe and wish the concept and philosophy of Georgia’s House Memorial Shelter for Women and Children was available in every city because IT WORKS!!!
